Laura Carlin

I find this piece by Laura Carlin really interesting as she has created a 3D object and taken photographs to capture the real shadow cast by it, then used that as the final image, opposed to drawing the shadow herself. I think this technique is very interesting, and I would be keen to experiment with creating different patterns, shapes, and depths by trying out lots of different materials etc to see how this affects the type of shadow cast.
I also find her choice of colour very interesting as it would be assumed she would use grey or a metallic colour as it is the 'iron' man.. However by choosing blue, it has made him seem more soft and less inhuman. This is also the case with how she has used soft edges instead of a regimented machine-like physique, which makes him seem softer as a character.
