Modern Day Cave Painting

Dan Funderburgh

This particular piece by Dan Funderburgh is of particular interest to me as I have done some work with paper cutting in the past and I find this very similar. Although this was cut with a laser cutter, I would very much like to approach this technique again in my future work.

Claire Coles

I particularly like Claire Coles work because I find it very similar to the outcomes we got from our tester week in textiles. The fact that the colour and lines are quite loose in their relationship to one another. I did not care for this technique very much, but I have to admit it had a very interesting outcome at the end, and I will definitely think about pursuing this technique again within development of my own projects.

Timorous Beasties

I find Timorous Beasties' work interesting because even though he is a textile designer, he explores lots of different disciplines but his work still has a very textile feel about it. Like the work above for example, was a large piece for a food festival and whilst is is not a wallpaper or cushion design for example, it is repetitive and patterned, very similar to a textile design.

Cara Murphy

Cara Murphy is a silversmith from Northern Ireland, and I found her work really interesting because she creates things that are unique and beautiful but also very useful. This piece in particular interested me very much. It is a salt and pepper shaker piece, and each seed pod can be removed and used, and then put back in a different place. This means the piece is always moving and evolving with the people who use it. I find it a very interesting concept; that a piece of art can change over time and almost a living installation.

Noma Bar

The work of Noma Bar is very illustrative. I really like their use of very simple flat shapes, and I find it very interesting that despite the simplicity of the imagery, there is a very clear message and quite cleverly, and emotion created. I think this is actually emphasised by how simple the shapes are, I think it leaves more space for the audience to deliberate within themselves how they feel about the image.
