Interesting Designers

Marianne Brandt (Bauhaus)

I find the shapes in Marianne Brandt's work very interesting, such as the contrast betwen the perfect circles to the very straight edges of the teapot on the right. Also, the contrast between the girth of the body in her teapots and the narrow width of the spouts is very interesting. I find the colour of the right teapot intriguing as well - I have never seen a brassy/gold teapot before.

Lyonel Feininger (Bauhaus)

I find the angles of this piece really striking, and although it it a simple, colourless design, it is very interesting to look at due to the use of lines, and how they work together to create a feeling of the shape of the cathedral.

Zahid Hadid

(Abu Dhabi Performing Arts Centre)

The shape of this building is something I've never conceived, let alone seen before. I find the sheer size of the building unbelievable, but then paired with the open space and angles, it is hard to believe that this structure is even structurally sound. However, I can imagine for it's purpose, that the angles and open space only helps the purpose of the building, as it houses concert and opera halls and such like. I find it interesting how the build looks like it is grown from the landscape rather than build on top of it, and although it is highly designed and man-made, it has an organic feel.

Ingo Maurer

I am very interested in light design, but I specifically find Ingo Maurers work intresting due to the unique use of the malubility of metal and the possibilites this opens up, both to interesting design ideas, but also opens up more opportunity to cater to the purpose of the product and/or where it will be used.
